Reliable Hardscapes is a retaining wall contractor in Tampa and the surrounding Tampa Bay area. We build segmental block and natural stone walls for sloped backyards, lakefront and canal lots, raised patios and planters, and we do the excavation and grading in-house so the wall and the drainage are planned together.
We're a licensed Florida contractor (CGC1541003) with 12 years of experience, and every wall carries a 2-year guarantee.
Why walls fail, and how we build them
Most retaining wall failures come from water, not the block. Water builds up behind the wall, pushes, and the wall leans or bulges. A wall that lasts needs a compacted base below grade, drainage stone behind the block, and a way for water to get out. We set the first course level on a compacted base, backfill with drainage aggregate as the wall goes up, and plan where the runoff goes.
What we build
- Segmental block walls in a range of colors and textures
- Natural stone walls and boulder edges
- Raised patios and planters
- Walls with steps built in
- Excavation and grading and dry creek beds to move water
Permits and engineering
Taller walls, and walls near structures or water, can require a permit and engineering. We'll tell you during the estimate whether your wall does, and plan the job around it.
Retaining wall cost
Walls are priced by length, height, material and how much digging and drainage the site needs, so we price them after seeing the site. Smaller projects start around $3,000; walls that are part of a larger backyard build often land in the $30,000–$50,000 range of our big hardscape projects.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
It depends on the height, location and your city. We check this during the estimate.
Block or natural stone?
Block is engineered for strength and consistent looks. Natural stone looks more organic and often costs more. Both work when built on a proper base with drainage.
Can you fix a leaning wall?
Often the best fix is to take the failed section down and rebuild it with a correct base and drainage. We’ll look at it and tell you honestly.
Do you handle the grading?
Yes, excavation and grading are done in-house.
