Pool Deck Pavers in Tampa

Paver, travertine and stone pool decks that stay cooler and less slippery than painted concrete.

Licensed FL contractor CGC1541003 12 years in business 2-year guarantee Free on-site estimates

We install pool deck pavers in Tampa and across Tampa Bay, on new pools and over or in place of old concrete decks. A paver or travertine pool deck stays cooler underfoot than most concrete, gives better grip when wet, and can be repaired one piece at a time instead of resurfaced.

Reliable Hardscapes is a licensed Florida contractor (CGC1541003) with 12 years of experience, and every pool deck carries a 2-year guarantee.

Materials for pool decks

Travertine is the most popular choice around Florida pools because it stays relatively cool and has a natural, textured surface. Concrete pavers cost less and come in many colors, including light shades that reflect heat. Flagstone gives a natural look and pairs well with fire pits and landscaped edges. We'll bring samples and talk through heat, grip and price for your pool.

New deck or conversion

On a new pool, we build the deck from a prepared base. On an existing concrete deck, we either remove it or, when it's sound and the height works at the coping and doors, install over it. Either way we pay close attention to drainage, so water runs away from the pool and the house.

How we install it

  1. On-site estimate. We measure, look at drainage and access, talk through layout, pattern and material, and give you a written price.
  2. Excavation and removal. Old concrete, sod or soil comes out to the depth the job needs. Grading is done in-house, so the finished surface sheds water away from the house and pool.
  3. Base. Crushed base rock goes down in layers, each one compacted with a plate compactor. The base is what keeps pavers flat, and it's deeper under driveways than under patios.
  4. Bedding and laying. A screeded sand bed, then the pavers in your pattern, with clean cuts at every edge and around drains.
  5. Edge restraint and joints. A restraint locks the outside edge so nothing creeps. The surface is compacted and the joints are filled with polymeric sand.
  6. Sealing (optional). Sealer deepens color and helps with stains. We'll tell you honestly whether your pavers need it.

Pool deck cost

Pool decks are priced like patios, by size and material, plus any concrete removal. Our smallest paver projects start around $3,000, and larger backyard projects run around $10,000. Travertine costs more than concrete pavers. See the paver cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

Are pavers hot around a pool?

Any surface gets warm in a Florida summer, but travertine and light-colored pavers stay noticeably cooler than dark pavers or painted concrete.

Are pavers slippery when wet?

Most pavers and tumbled travertine have a textured surface that grips better than smooth or painted concrete. If you seal, we use a sealer suited to pool decks.

Can you do the pool deck without draining the pool?

Yes, deck work is done around the pool. We protect the water and coping while we work.

Do you work with saltwater pools?

Yes. Ask about material and sealing choices for salt pools during the estimate.
